Blog on Pause

Well my bloggy friends, I'm putting my blog on pause for a couple weeks. My lovely, good eye is acting up. Again. Big ole' boo to that. The good thing is the eye doc I saw today wants to get to the bottom of what's causing these iritis episodes. As of right now the inflammation in my good eye is B.A.D. Cloudy vision, pain, red eye bad. He said there were 3 options to treat it. Ready? 1) shot of steroids under my eye lid. 2) shot of steroid into my eye. 3) oral steroids that may or may not make me feel like crap. Which did he pick??? 3! Thank goodness! I take feeling like crap over scary needles by my eye or in my eye! So for the next 10 days I will be poppin pills that will hopefully make this inflammation go AWAY!

I also had to take a chest X-ray, and I need blood work done. So cross your fingers and toes, say a big prayer that we figure out what the heck is causing my eye troubles. I'd like to keep my vision, and I know you want me to keep blogging. :).

Update: This steroid is pure energy! I have been on a cleaning spree, and still feel like I could run a marathon!  Okay, well not a marathon, but a far distance!  Thank goodness I'm not feeling like crap, but I hope I can sleep tonight....

Cousins are special.  I remember growing up being surrounded by my cousins, and they were my best friends.  They were like my brothers and sisters.  Believe me we fought like we were brothers and sisters.  There's a special bond between us.

When we were in Alaska, Max was able to spend some quality time with his cousins.  The bond between them was instant.  They played together like they had known each other forever.  I hope their special bond keeps them close as they grow up.

Toy Loving Monster

Note to self: Avoid the toy aisle at any store Max and I happen to be shopping at.  We pass by and he gets so excited and wants everything in sight. Well, minus the girl toys.  He's more into the cars, trains, bikes, and bike helmets.   He liked the Elmo helmet, but LOVED the Mickey helmet.  Putting it back I had to take it from his grabby little hands.  To say he was pissed is an understatement.    I think I've created a toy loving monster.....

Bath Artist

Max once again is liking baths, as long as there are bubbles.  So today we went out to buy some bubble bath, and came across some nifty markers that you can use in the tub.  Max immediately claimed them as his own, with a matter of fact "Mine!".   We also got some color tablets that color the water, and some water crayons.  We were ready for some fun!!

When Max saw the blue water he was beyond excited.  "Boo wawa Mama!" (Blue water Mama)  He stripped off his clothes in 2.5 seconds and was ready to play.  Will all the marker/crayon options, he had no idea where to begin.  Once he figured out how to use the markers he went drawing away.  He also liked to hide the markers/crayons under the bubbles, and then he'd ask, "Where is it?"  He'd quickly grab the hidden treasure and yell with excitement because he found it.

I think we could have a bath artist on our hands.....

The 411

I love when blogs I stalk follow do Link Ups...it's some fun people.   FromMrstoMama is hosting this fun link up.  Most of you reading this are my family/friends and know me, but we'll pretend you don't.

1. How long have you been blogging? And what got you started on blogging? Has your blog changed?
I've been blogging for over 2 years.  I started blogging when I found out I was pregnant and I wanted to keep my family and friends in the loop of what was going on.  The focus of my blog now is more about Max and the adventures we've gotten to experience, but I like to throw in some proud wife blogs too.

2. Did you go to college? If so where, and what did you study?
I went to New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM.  GO AGGIES!   I studied Elementary Education, and have been a 3rd grade teacher the past 7 years. (Random, but the other day on Twitter I saw a tweet about Buck Pierce.  I had a "Buck Pierce?! I know him!" moment.  He was the QB of our football team, and in my education classes.  He plays for the CFL now.  Just thought I'd share that with you.)

3. Where have you traveled?
I've traveled in the US, Mexico, and recently Canada!  I <3 Canada and want to live there.

4. If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would buy?
Hmm...I guess the first thing I would buy would be a disposable camera to take a picture of me with the winning ticket, because I would probably have broken my phone when I dropped it from all the excitement,  Kidding....a new car.  Mine is falling apart.

5. What are your 3 biggest pet peeves?
-Receptionists at doctors offices who are not nice..ummm you'd think they'd hire a people person.
-When I see people at stores put things in the wrong place because they don't want to go to where they got it from.  I worked at Target and I was that person who had to put it back.
-When people wear a jersey/shirt to a game where that team isn't playing.  (I've done this...gasp!  I know better now.)

6. What is your favorite movie?
This is a tough one because I have 3 (Camp NoWhere (I was a huge Andrew Keagan fan back in the day), The Goonies (I think all people should love this movie), Drop Dead Fred....If I absolutely have to pick, I'd say Drop Dead Fred....I always wanted an imaginary friend.

7. What is your drink of choice; wine, beer, or liquor. Or Water, Soda, Tea?
Green tea, and if it's from Starbucks that's even better!  (I wish I liked wine, but I don't like the taste and it reminds me of church.)

8. What is something you enjoy to do when you have me time?
When I have time away from my boys, I love going to the movies by myself.  I don't have to talk to anyone, I get to just sit, relax, eat my raisinetts, and watch whatever movie I'm wanting to see.

9. If you could have a $10,000 shopping spree to one store, which store would it be?
Hautelook.com....online shopping counts?  I'm OBSESSED with this website.  If you have no clue what I'm talking about.  Go look now.

10. Share with us an embarrassing moment of your past? Or present.
When I was in high school I was big on writing notes.  One day in English class we had a sub, Mr. S., and my friend Kendall and I passed a note.  Mr. S took it and read it to the whole class.  I died.  THANK GOD we used code names for the boys we were talking about.  I laughed so hard I was crying and my makeup smeared onto my English book.   I still get embarrassed thinking about it....

11. What day would you love to relive again?
Hands down the day I met Ian.  That's the day our story started.  I'd be sure to take a picture 2nd time around.

12. If your life was turned into a movie... what actor would play you?
Umm...Alexis Bledel.  Not because I think I look like her or her like me, but because I know we'd be BFFs and if she's playing me, then I'd get to meet her.

13. What are the jobs you had in high school/college/the early years?
-Target-where my love for Target all started.  I worked there for 3 years, and it was so much fun.
-Computer Science Department at NMSU with my partner in crime, Tanya.  Oh the trouble we'd get into.  We had a place on our desk where we'd put pictures of hot guys...how that was acceptable, I don't know.

14. Show us a picture from high school or college.
Tanya and I "working" in the CS department.  Fun, fun, fun!

15. If you could travel anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, where would you go?
Italy. I didn't even have to think about that one.

16. Show us the most current picture of you , or your family, or anything of meaning to you.

This was in Healy a little over a week ago.

17. Where do you see your life 5 years from now?
In 5 years I hope to be living not in AZ, happy, loving life, being a SAHM. (Holy cow in 5 years Max will almost be 7!  It's crazy to picture my baby as an almost 7 year old kid.)

Who You Gonna Call??

While we were in AK, Pat gave Max a few shirts.  They weren't just any shirts.  They belonged to Ian when he was Max's age!  Love, love!!

Who you gonna call?  Ghostbusters!!
Vroom, vroom!  This car goes so fast!
I wonder if it will bounce?
Umm...is that a ghost I hear?

How cute is that shirt, and it's vintage.  :)

Happy Monday!!

We were only in Seattle on Sunday.  We all met up with Jake & Katie, Josh, Adam & Lisa at Claim Jumper for dinner.  We were bummed we didn't get to see Jake & Katie's little girl, or Eryn and the kiddos.  (Next time we're in Seattle.)  It was a fun dinner.  Max enjoyed the food he was eating, but did want to run around.  There was an area across the street that had a few trees and a hill so Max and I went to play.   He had fun running down the hill.  It was so funny watching his little legs go as fast as they could.  He didn't get hurt, thank goodness!

Max and I went back to the hotel room early because it was his bedtime, and we had to be at the airport at 3:30 the next morning.  Yikes!  Saying goodbye to Brenda and Spencer was sad.  We had so much fun with them.  There are some people in the world who are genuinely good people.  They fall into that category.  They are great friends, and awesome tour guides! I hope we live close to them one day.

Flight #3-Seattle to Anchorage
We flew out super early so Max slept most of the way.  Plus he was just excited to be on an airpwane again.  We had a short layover in Anchorage.

Flight #4 Anchorage to Fairbanks
We were almost to our final destination!  Luckily we sat on the left side of the plane and got an amazing view of Mt. McKinley.  It's amazing to see, and so beautiful.  We took so many pictures!  When we landed in Fairbanks we were excited to see Pap-pap, Mum-mum, and Nicole.  It was raining.  I think the rain followed us!  We picked up Jaden and Amaya from school and spent the day with them.  We took them to Pioneer Park.  Fun place people.  It had a playing area for the kiddos to play, and play they did!  Max loves slides.  Max's top loves: airpwanes, bikes, and slides.

That day we also got to watch Jbo play soccer.  Watch out David Beckham!  He's so fast and scores goals like no other.  It was crazy to see!  We had planned to watch Nicole's softball game, but we were so tired and Max was a hot mess that we went home to Healy.

The house Ian grew up in is a magical place, especially for little kids.  The minute Max went outside, he was in a whole new world.  To say that Max likes the outdoors is an understatement.  He spent most of his time outside with his Pap-pap.  I swear, Ian and I watched Max grow up while in Healy.  He explored their yard every day.  He fed ducks, played on the slides, was pushed on the swings, played golf, baseball, football, hockey, and just ran free.

Jaden came to Healy on the 4th of July, and the minute he got there he had a little shadow following him.  Max loves Jbo.  He followed him, chased him, laughed with him, and just wanted to be around him.  We went to a picnic on the 4th, at Otto Lake.  It was windy out, so I have to say it was cold.  It didn't phase Max at all.  He had fun playing with Jbo.   That night Ian and I went to the 49er Brewery....Umm I think that's what it's called.  We had SO MUCH fun!  We met up with Walker who is one of Ian's BFFs.  Remember the good people category I was talking about?  He lands in that category too.  I loved hearing Ian and Walker talking about their childhood and trouble they would get into or create for fun.   It was a great night.

We went down into Denali National Park to take the boys to see the train.  They were excited to see it, but I think they wanted to ride it more.  We also went on a hike.  Horseshoe Trail wasn't a hard hike.  Ian carried Max on his back in a carrier. Max had it easy.  Jbo was our hike leader and lead the way to the lake.  The way to the lake is mostly downhill.  All I could think about was going back....uphill.  On our way back Jbo and I decided to run...uphill.  We raced.  Well it was really more of Jbo running and I was running after him.  :)  It was fun though!

Friday Nicole and Amaya came to Healy.  All 3 kiddos together was a sight to see.  They had so much fun.  We had a little gathering on Saturday night filled with yummy food.  The kiddos had s'mores.  Max loves him some s'mores.  He had no problem eating it up.  Why we gave the kids s'mores before bed I don't know, because it was pure chaos after they ate one.

Sunday we went to Fairbanks because we had to be at the airport at 11:30 that night.  We spent some of the day at Pioneer Park and took the kiddos on the train ride.  We had dinner at the Silver Gultch.  So good!  Max ate up his mac and cheese.  He did get a tad bit fussy though, so I took him outside to walk around.  We went back to the hotel to hang out and wait until it was time to go.  It was sad saying goodbye to Nicole, Jbo, and Amaya.  I hope we see them soon, and Cleo who was working  up north and we missed this trip.

When Pap-pap and Mum-mum took us to the airport, Max saw airpwanes and got a burst of energy.  Our flight didn't leave until 1:30 and the kid was hyper until we got  on the plane!  Saying goodbye to Ian's parents is always sad.  We usually tear up, and this time wasn't any different.  Max said "bye bye" and then when they left went looking for them.  Sad.

Flight #5 Fairbanks to Seattle
Max slept the entire flight.  Ian and I on the other hand did not.  I couldn't get comfortable, and was just ready to be home.

Flight #6- Seattle to Phoenix
Max slept the entire flight!  Yay!  Max is still a good little traveler.  Knock on wood. Getting off the plane we immediately felt the heat.  Blah!  That is one thing I did NOT miss.

Since being home Max's schedule is out of whack.  He slept 14 1/2 hours on Monday night, and then last night he slept 12 hours.   Today's nap was closer to his regular nap time, so hopefully he'll be back on schedule soon.

Mt. McKinley in all it's beauty.
How come this book doesn't come out?

Spence I like laying down better.

Oh Canada

We're back from our vacation!!! I have to say it was an awesome vacation. :)  It all started at the airport.  Max was in airplane heaven.  Every time he saw one, which was a lot, he'd yell, "airpwane!!!"  You could imagine his excitement when he actually got to get on one.  Oh goodness!  His little squeals of joy were contagious, and people were smiling.

Airplane ride #1- AZ to Portland
The trip was about 3 hours....I think.  I can't even remember, because I swear we took so many plane rides.   Max did pretty good.  The guy in front of us pushed back his chair as far as it would go, and so that limited the space we had.  Max wasn't impressed and kicked his chair to let him know.  He wanted to walk halfway through the flight, but we somehow managed to keep him entertained.  Flying into Portland I was in love with all the green.  Max liked all the "wawa" he saw from the window.

Flight #2- Portland to Bellingham
I was a bit nervous when we had to board our plane.  We walked outside and had to climb stairs to get on the much smaller plane.  There were two seats on each side.  I don't do well with small planes.  Max was beyond happy to be on another "airpwane" and flirted with the ladies behind us.  The minute we were in the air, he crashed.  Good flight when your child sleeps.  You're happy, everyone around you is happy.

When we landed it was raining!  Yes, I was excited about rain.  We left 113 degree weather behind, and I was happy!  Spencer was there to pick us up.  We get to the border and of course, no stamp.  Oh well.   I told the boys as we were crossing into Canada I felt like singing "Oh Canada", but I managed to contain myself.  In my head I was singing away though.  We were all excited to see Spencer and Brenda!  So excited that we stayed up to the wee hours of the morning chatting away, knowing that Max would be up a few hours later.  We never learn.

We woke up the next day with plans to go to Whistler.  I was beyond excited, but I didn't squeal with joy.  We'll leave that to the kid.   The weather was cloudy, cool, and rainy.  Spence and Brenda were bummed about the weather, however us out of towners were loving it!  We went to Spencer's firehouse to show Max a firetruck.  Max saw not only his first firetruck up close and personal, but a rain puddle.  It's safe to say that Max is a pro rain puddle splasher.

Off to Whistler and let me just say it's gorgeous up there.  We went to eat and I had a Caesar...of course..I'm only in Canada people!  It was ah-mazing!  I lost count of how many Caesars I drank while there, but I love that drink.  While enjoying our lunch Max fell in love with another object that he would point at and yell every time he saw one.  A bike.  Now he was in bike heaven, and let me tell you we saw bikes every where!

After lunch we went to Cows to get some ice cream for Max.  It was the best ice cream/cone I've ever tasted.  Max approved with his, "Mmmmmms".  We went on search of a balloonist (is that what they are called?)  We were going to get Max a bike, but the guy was leaving, so Max was left with a poodle. All Max saw was a "bawoon", and he was happy.

Fast forward to the next day.  Still raining, still loving the weather.  We went to Granville Island.  Pretty cool place.  Brenda and I took Max to The Toy Co, while the boys went to sample some beer.  Now we were in toy heaven.  We took Max to a little shop that had a train table.  Max loved playing with the trains.  Getting him to leave was hard, because he didn't want to part from his trains.  We walked around some more and then took an aquabus tour.  It was fun!  I don't know if Max understood we were on the water.

When we left Granville we went on a driving tour of Stanley Park.  Beautiful!  The way Max was with bikes, is the way I was with all the green.  I couldn't get over the trees.  I'll take seeing beautiful green over deserty brown any day.

Sunday was Canada Day, and the day we were leaving.  Boo!  I was bummed to be leaving.  I could seriously live there, but I think some would have a problem with my loving the Coyotes.  :)

You mean you get to drive this red truck Spencer?
Wow, this is really red.
What does this button do?
I could totally drive this truck.
Umm...this is kind of heavy for my head.
Yeah it fits your head better Daddy.

Chief Mountain/
Caesar with bacon...Yum-O!
View on our trip from Whistler.
We stopped to let Max look at the "wawa", which he loved.
I want one of these for my room Mommy.
Is it safe to be on the wawa?

These are just some of the pictures from my phone of our Canadian adventure.  I still have to go through the pictures on our camera!

Still ahead: Seattle and Alaska
