Happy Halloween!!!

Max loved, loved, loved trick-or-treating, but he had to warm up to it before there was love.   Well before any of the fun I had to bribe him into putting his costume on.  He put it right on for some candy.  A mom's gotta do, what a mom's gotta do.

The minute Ian got home we set out for our Halloween adventure.  At first Max wouldn't say a word.  By the third house he had warmed up a little and would say thank you.  After awhile he was saying, "Ah Treat!"  "Halloween!" and "Thank youuu!"   Every time we'd leave a house he'd talk a mile a minute about his bucket of candy.  He'd squeal with excitement when he saw the kiddos dressed up, especially if he saw another Jake.   We crossed paths with a little boy dressed as a toilet, and his name was Max.  That was funny.

I think Max made one cute Jake, but he was super happy to get out of his costume and play with his candy.  He has emptied and filled up his pumpkin with his candy over and over again.  I can't believe next year we'll have two trick-or-treaters!

What's That?

We have a set of picture flashcards that we go over with Max.  He's gotten really well at saying what each picture is.  Once we master those flashcards, we're moving on the to the alphabet cards. I was recording him go over the cards and it turned into a 3 minute video.  I can only share a snippet   Max turned the questioning around on me, and was asking me what the pictures were.  Super cute. :)

I had Max try on his costume today, and he wasn't impressed.  He cried and cried, and I laughed and laughed.  He looked so dang cute, I couldn't help it.  Hopefully on Wednesday he'll love it and won't cry, or Trick-or-Treating might not happen.  When he saw this picture though he yelled, "Jake!!!"  not realizing that it's him in the picture.

Nothing exciting to report.  Unless you find puking and sleeping exciting.  Umm..and if you do, then that's kinda weird.  The first trimester of this pregnancy is kicking my butt.  If I could stay in bed all day, I seriously would.

Hopefully something more exciting happens, because I do not want to be blogging about puking and sleeping for the next few weeks.  Oh wait!  I'll have Halloween to blog about.  Okay, back to your energized, nonpuking day.  I'm so jealous of you.

This morning Max and I made a quick trip to the grocery store to get some milk.  They have the carts with a car attached and Max got so excited, so I let him pick which one he wanted to ride in.  He had so much fun.  He was making car noises, turning the wheel like if he was in a race, and being ridiculously cute.

I've had a major sweet tooth lately, so we drove by the donuts and chose one yummy looking one to share.  (Shhh don't tell Ian)  Oh and share we did when we got home.  Max was all about saying, "Yummyyyyyy!"

I'm so ready for a nap.  I was ready for a nap before Ian left for work around 7:30.  Max decided to wake up at 4:30 this morning.   I've been laying on the couch, and Max is all about my nook lately.  There is a counting game on there and he repeats it as it counts.  Oh, but if only he were ready for a nap, I'd be happy....maybe I'll trick him.   Asking him if he wants to jump on the bed always works.  ;)

Here are some pictures that I got from Ian.

This spaghetti is yummyyyy!

Mmmm...I just want to eat you noodle!

Relaxing after all his break dancing.

Daddy, I'm trying to watch Mickey.

6 Places

For 6 Places, I'm going to go with my 6 favorite places we've traveled.

1. Alaska- for Ian this is home.  We've gone to visit a handful of times, but my favorite trip was our first one to the state.  That's the trip that Ian proposed to me.  Awww....

2. San Diego- I love the ocean, and the sound of the waves.  If I could wake up to that sound every morning that would be awesome!

3. Rocky Point- We vacationed here for our honeymoon.  Beautiful, relaxing, ocean, real Mexican food, and my first trip as a Mrs.

4. Canada- Oh, I loved it there!!  So green and beautiful!!  I would move there in a heartbeat.

5. Pittsburgh- the place was full of character.  Just driving around you could tell the buildings held
some pretty amazing stories.

6. My parent's house.   It's home.

Pregnancy Files

I wanted to wait a few weeks before I shared this glorious news, but I wanted to share what's going on in my life at this very moment I found out our family was growing.

September 17, 2012
So that past few nights insomnia has hit me like a bat out of hell.  I wake up at 3:25 and I'm wide awake for about two hours.  Luckily the Style channel has been showing reruns of Giuliana and Bill so I've been happy.  Well not happy that I'm awake, but happy that I can watch something I like. I was also feeling nauseous.   This is how I was when I was pregnant with Max.  So on this day I took Max to PCA and then I went to the store and bought a pregnancy test with 3 tests.  Yes 3.  I wanted to be super sure.  I took the test and there was only ONE line...Boo.  I wanted to see two.  I left it on the counter and went into the living room to read some blogs and watch some reality tv.  I went back into the bathroom to straighten my hair and I look down at the test.  There are TWO pink lines.  TWO!  I did a happy dance and then called my mom.  Our conversation went like this:

Mom: Hello?
Me: MOM!
Mom: What?

Then the rest of the conversation was a blur because I was beyond happy and excited.  I took the other two tests just to make sure, and they both showed two beautiful pink lines.  Oh happy day!!

I decided that I wanted to tell Ian in a cute way.  So I ventured to Hobby Lobby, which overwhelms the crap out of me because there is so much stuff in there.  I bought a blank puzzle.  I decorated one that said, "Max loves Daddy" and the other said "Big Brother".

When Ian got home last night I had both puzzles on the table for him to make before dinner.  His sister called and was talking to him, so he was putting them together while on the phone.  I was laughing, and waiting.  He put the first one together and smiled and me.  Then he put the second one together, mouth the words, looked at me with shock/excitement, mouthed "really?!"  all while still on the phone with Nicole.  She had no idea.   He quickly got off the phone and we had a family hug.  Our family of 3 will soon be 4!!

The lines might be faint, but they are there!!
Max is going to be a big brother!!

This morning I had to go get blood work done (yes more!) to confirm that I'm pregnant, and then I can schedule an ultrasound to check the due date of the little bean.  I'm saying June 1, 2013.  Well that's what the app on my iPhone says.  So I'm going with that.  I've given plenty of blood this past month so it's nothing new.  Holy Crap the lady hurt me.  She moved the needle around, and ouch! Painful!  So either tomorrow or Thursday they'll give me a call and either set up an ultrasound or I have to go back and give more blood.  Something has to be above 1800 before they can schedule an ultrasound.

September 19, 2012
When I was pregnant with Max I had morning sickness throughout my whole pregnancy.  Those ladies who only experienced it through their first trimester or didn't experience it all made me sick. Well not really, but I was super jealous.   My pregnancy with Max was a tough one, and left me wondering on some days whether or not I would want to go through it again.  There were some days where I was certain that I would not be pregnant again.  I wasn't one of those ladies who loved being pregnant.  I hope this time around it's different.  More enjoyable.  Already though all day sickness aka morning sickness has hit me.  I'm nauseous all day and I've become friends with our lovely toilet.  TMI?  I'm sure I'll be sharing tons more stuff that you're going to be like, "Did she really just blog about that?!"   So you've been warned, but to be fair I'll try to warn before you read it, so you can prepare yourselves.   Really though if this pregnancy is just as tough as the last one, or tougher (yikes! I hope not!) the outcome is all worth it.   I think I need to go buy ginger ale.   My long lost friend.

September 25, 2012
Morning. Sickness. Is. A. Bitch.   That is all for today.

I've heard that with the 2nd baby you show
sooner, but this is ridiculous!!   Maybe twins?

September 26, 2012
Today I had to go back to the doctor to have my blood drawn again.  I hope this is the last time and I can schedule to see the doctor, but I have a feeling I'm going to have to go back again next week.

Expectant Mothers....that's me!!

September 28, 2012
I was called today and given the results from my latest hcG blood work.  Last week it was 54.  The lady who called had thick accent and all I heard was 158.  That's too low.  My heart stopped and tears started forming.  She said a nurse would be calling to set up an appointment to be seen.  Before we were getting off the phone I asked, "So it was only 158?"  She said, "Oh no!  It was 2,158."  Ahhh!!!  Thank goodness!  I heard her wrong the first time!!  I get to schedule an ultrasound, and then once that's done and I have an actual due date I can schedule an appointment to see the doctor.  They seriously do things differently now.  I never did any of this with Max.  Weird.  So my ultrasound will be next Wednesday early in the morning.  We'll officially find out when little bean is due!!  I'm so excited!!!

October 2, 2012
Tomorrow is the day for our ultrasound and the days have been dragging!!  I'm so excited!  Other than that there is nothing new to report.  Morning sickness is still kicking my butt, I can't handle sliced cheese, and I should have an iv of ginger ale hooked up to me at all times.  Oh if only.....  I'll be sure to post about my ultrasound tomorrow!!  But of course for you all, you won't read it for a couple weeks.  :)
Seriously, I hope tomorrow the ultrasound person tells me there are twins in there.  If it's just one baby and I'm already showing this much...omg. OH EM GEE!!!  Or  if there is one, I hope I'm way further along than I'm thinking I am.  I can already hear the, "Oh my gosh you are already showing!"  or my fave, "You are so big!"

October 3, 2012
Last night I couldn't sleep a wink.  I was so ready for today.  I got to my appointment early.  The minutes slowly ticked by, and finally the nice lady called me back.  She's doing her thing and confirms that there is a baby.  One baby?  I asked her if she was sure, because I was certain I'm having twins.  Nope, there is only one little bean who will grace us with his/her presence on (hopefully before) May 29, 2013.  So yes...I'm already showing that much.  Yikes!
First picture of our little bean.

October 11, 2012
Well I went to my first baby appointment yesterday.  It's the one with the nurse so it's very informational.  Nothing too exciting.  She went over the timeline of visits with me.  When she talked about the gender ultrasound I did an internal squeal of excitement!  Right now it seems so far away, but I know it's going to go by fast.  Maybe that's wishful thinking.  I want to get through the first trimester safely, and the morning sickness to be gone.   I need to go to Trader Joe's and get their ginger candies they sell.  Tomorrow.

Max story.  Even though it's early in the pregnancy we've been talking about the baby.  I'll ask him what he thinks I'm having, and if he wants a brother or sister.  He wants a "meester".  I asked him where the baby was, and he grabbed my boob...oh Max.  Thank goodness your bro/sis is not in my boob.

I've been thinking about life as a family of 4.  When we go to hockey games,  and now I'll have Max and the bean...maybe we'll be watching games from home.  Or going to the store with two kids.  I've seen other moms conquer this task, so I know it's possible, but I'm not gonna lie.  I'm kinda freaked out.  A good freaked out.

October 16, 2012
I have no energy.  All I want to do it lay in bed and sleep.  I can't though because I have a ball of energy 2 year old who wants to play, play, play!!  Today was one of those days where I'm pretty sure I could of slept all day.  I was so happy when nap time rolled around because that meant I could sleep too, and sleep we did.  Our "playing" today has been laying on the couch reading books together, and building Lego towers.  Thankfully he hasn't wanted to play football or run around like crazy person.  I honestly don't even have the energy to continue typing.  You think I'm exaggerating, but I'm seriously not.  No. Energy.

October 22, 2012
Traveling and morning sickness do not go hand in hand.  I normally get nauseous on plane rides to begin with, but this time it was 10x worse.  Bleh!  I also get carsick and so the roads in Pittsburgh are all curvy, windy and hilly.  Ginger ale was my bff.  I was a hot sick mess.  I was told with Max the morning sickness would go away after the first trimester.  It didn't.  I'm super worried that this time around it will stick around again.  Guess we'll see in 4 weeks and 2 days if it goes away...but whose counting???

October 24, 2012
So last night I had a dream that I was having twins.  I can't shake the dream.  Even before the ultrasound I was certain I was having twins.   I've been googling...I know bad, seeing if at the first ultrasound they can miss seeing twins.  So far from what I read, they can miss twins.  I still feel like I'm having twins too....I don't know.  I have my next appointment in November.  Guess we'll see if the doc can hear two heartbeats.   Weird.   Maybe I'm just thinking twins because I'm showing so much.

October 25, 2012
Now we are officially up to date and I can blog like normal!  Yay!!  I went to the eye doctor this morning to check on my lovely eyes, and guess what?!  They are the best he's ever seen!!  No sign of inflammation or swollen retina!!!  I was kind of worried because when I was pregnant with Max my body was all out of sorts  and my eyes were causing me nothing but trouble.  So far this time around we're good!!  I'm still gonna stick with not eating meat.  I'm pretty happy my eyes are fine. Ahhh!!!!

Family of 3

We're becoming a family of 4!!

I realize if you follow me on pinterest you've probably been asking yourself, "Is she..." because I've been pinning baby things like crazy.  If you follow me on Instagram, you lucky people already knew because of the puzzle picture.  :)  I can't keep this from my blog any longer!  Writing posts and not talking about it has been hard.  I've been writing a post though since I found out that I'll share tomorrow called the pregnancy files.

Double Trouble

So I left off at Oakmont Bakery, and actually that's the last place we went before Ian's family met up for dinner that night.  Can you believe that I forgot about Heinz Field?!

Friday afternoon we went to see where the Steelers play.  I was so excited. So. Excited.  Max and Amaya were napping, so Pat was kind enough to stay in the car with them while Nicole. Jaden, Ian, and myself went and took in Heinz Field and took pictures.  You would have thought I was seeing a famous person.  I was giddy.  This is the home of the Steelers.  This is where I see the Terrible Towels waving in the stands.  This is where there are those yellow seats.  I saw the yellow seats in person.  Do I sound crazy??  I'm just an excited Steelers fan. :)  I totally would have died if we saw an actual player.  We also drove by PNC Park where the Pirates play.  No giddiness there, but it was cool to see.

That night we got together with Pat's side of the family at an Italian restaurant.  I got some yummy eggplant parmesan.  (I was really worried about not eating meat.  I didn't want to break some Italian law, but it was a-ok.) Ian had the chicken parmesan, and  Max enjoyed a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs.  Max really enjoyed playing with his cousins, or getting into trouble.  Him and Amaya are double trouble

The food and family were great and it was wonderful meeting Ian's side of the family that I hadn't met before.

Saturday we got up bright and early to take our adventure to Columbus, Ohio.  On our way we drove through West Virginia.  So in a span of half an hour we were in 3 states.  Crazy! We went to Columbus for Ian's Aunt and Uncle's 50th Wedding Anniversary.  This was John's side of the family.  I had met some when Ian and I got married, but that was 4 years ago, so it was a jumble of names.  Most of the family stayed at a hotel and the party began.  We went to a mass for the happy couple, and it was a beautiful church.  Max lasted about 10 minutes into the mass.  He spent the remainder of the time in the lobby, and then I took him outside and we played on a playground by the church.   After mass we went to a banquet hall and enjoyed dinner, family films/slide show, homemade desserts, and family stories.  Max had a blast playing with all his cousins.  Jbo taught him to break dance, they watched a pretend football game, they were running around screaming, laughing and getting into trouble.

When we got back to the hotel it was late, and  I was hungry (it was chicken parmesan for dinner.  Looked yummy, but I only ate the veggies and Max ate the noodles.) So Max and I ordered room service and watched Hocus Pocus.  Ian enjoyed spending time with his family and catching up. (By catching up, I mean drinking many adult beverages.) I could hear the laughter in the room.

Sunday we woke up, got into Steeler gear, and went down for breakfast.  I had one couple tell me I needed to buy Max a real jersey.  I'm not sure if he meant a Bengals or Browns jersey, but I just laughed.  The random guy also laughed because he thought he told the funniest joke in the world.   Umm..not so funny random guy.  Once everyone was done eating and chatting we all said our goodbyes.  We were heading to Cincinnati to see the Steelers play.  We drove by Ohio State, but there was an event going on so we didn't get to see much of the campus.  Bummer.

When we got to Cincinnati we crossed the river and were actually staying in Covington, Kentucky.  Our hotel was a fancy one and we had a killer view of the stadium.  We walked around to find a place to eat lunch.  I was kind of nervous that people would make comments about our shirts, but I was reminded that we were in Kentucky, not Cincinnati.  Oh, people did make comments in the elevator but John quipped back with, "Are you going to a Halloween party?" because the people were just wearing orange and black.   He said it so seriously though, that it was funny.

When the boys and Tracy left for the game, we took the kiddos swimming.  Well actually it was more of splashing.  Max stayed on the first step and splashed like a mad man. He had a blast.  When he got out I was ready for a tantrum to make me regret bringing him to the pool, but he was good.  No tears.  I dashed him up to our room before he could cry.  It was after 8:00 by then, so we decided to order some food and put the kiddos to sleep.  I think we all watched the game in our rooms, and it was so cool to look out our window and see the stadium all lit up.   Thankfully we got a W and everyone came back to the hotel happy!

In the morning we all had to say our goodbyes.  John and Pat drove us back to Columbus so that we could catch out flight.  Max was stoked to get on another airplane.  He fell asleep about 5 minutes into the flight. Our second flight was about an hour or so delayed.  He was awake and ready to play for this flight.  He played with the iPad and watched Mickey.  Then when we were just about to land he fell asleep.  He slept until just about 5:00 am the next morning.

It was a quick trip.  We crammed seeing a bunch of things into a few days, but it was an awesome trip.  Seeing family, making memories,  and having the pictures to go with those memories is priceless.  I can't wait to go back!

Pittsburgh Zoo!!  I forgot to add these in the last post.

Won't you be my neighbor?

Playing around before dinner.

Checking out the view.
The view.

Splashing around in the pool!

On Wednesday night we set off for an adventure that was going to take us on a whirl wind of a trip through 6 states (2 were airport layovers, but we were still in the state!) in 5 days.  To say that I was excited about going to Pittsburgh was an understatement.  Ian and I had been talking about this trip and what we were going to shove into the two days that we were there.  I loved Pittsburgh.  From the minute we landed and I saw the beautiful fall leaves on the trees, it was love at first sight. John and Pat picked us up from the airport and off we went so Max and I could see this city for the  first time.

The buildings are amazing.  The whole city just has character.  There were murals on building walls that were amazing.  The one thing I had a problem with were the roads.  They are windy and curvy and not good for my car sickness.  I was nauseous the whole time, but it was so worth it! Oh and the churches!  There are so many churches and they are huge, amazingly beautiful, spectacular buildings.

We went to the Strip District first and it was awesome.  I loved all the Steelers stuff around.  The city really embraces all their teams regardless of their wins or losses.  I'm pretty sure I stood out and screamed "tourist" with all the pictures I was taking and the excitement coming from me.  We went into this fish place that had tons of fresh fish, all kinds of fish.  Smelly-yes, awesome-yes! We went into a store that had pasta, fresh cheese (I couldn't handle the smell of the cheeses and had to leave), olive oils, olives....rows and rows of amazingness. (I think I'm going to say amazing, excited, and beautiful a lot in this post. )  We ate at Primanti Brothers for lunch.  The sandwiches there are ridiculous and I couldn't wait to get one.  A big yum-o to that sandwich!!  I only ate half, but it was delicious! Heaven. Seriously so good.

We then went to Mt. Washington and the Inclines.  The view was breathtakingly beautiful.  I got my first glimpse of Heinz Field and felt like a kid seeing Santa for the first time. Seeing it on tv is one thing, but to see it in person....you guessed it, amazing!  Max loved the ride up and down the Incline.  It was pretty cool.

Ian set up a tour for us to see the Consol Energy Center where the Penguins play.  The guy giving us the tour was very nice and took us all around the building.  Their building is really modern.  I loved it.   Seeing the ice was my favorite part.  I miss hockey. :(  Max got so excited when he saw the zamboni on the ice.   He was afraid of the huge hockey stick and helmet they have on the concourse.  We still took pictures though :).

On the way back to where Ian's aunt lives we passed the University of Pittsburgh (amazing), and the house John grew up in (now I can picture it when he tells his stories).  We rested up a bit before heading out again to meet up with Nicole and her family.

The next day we set off early to go see the house that Ian and Nicole lived in for the couple years they were in Pittsburgh, and the house Pat grew up in.  On our way Nicole mentioned something about the Dance Moms studio.  I've never seen the show, but when I told my mom that we were going to Pittsburgh she said I should go see the studio.  Jaden is a huge fan of the show (as is his mommy) and he saw the studio before we even noticed it!  When we got there this guy walked up to us and we asked if we could take pictures.  We went to take pictures and on the way back we actually saw Abby Lee Miller the dance teacher.   We ended up getting a tour of the studio.  It was awesome.  I'm going to have to watch the show now so I can see what it's about!

The Pittsburgh Zoo was our next stop.  I'm not a fan of zoos because of all the times I went to the Albuquerque Zoo on field trips, but this zoo is my favorite.  The animals were so close, and we saw a baby elephant and rhino.  The kiddos had so much fun.  Max and Amaya walked just about everywhere and acted like they were 5.  So grown up they are.  On the way back to Aunt Ann's house we stopped at Oakmont Bakery.  There were rows of yummy looking cakes, cupcakes, cookies, breads....sugar heaven.

I still have to talk about seeing Heinz Field up close and personal, the family dinner at an Italian restaurant, Columbus, and Cincinnati.  More to come!!

Max had fun playing at the airport at 10:30 pm.  He was a great little traveler!

Yum. Yum. Yum.

View from Mt. Washington.  Beautiful.

The Inclines!

Just a couple of the murals we saw.

Home of the Penguins!!
