Currently:April

Here we are at the beginning of another month.  I have to say April 1st holds a place in my heart.  I met Ian on April Fools day back in 2006.  Little did I know that day would change my life.  Enough with the sappy talk.  Here's what I'm currently up to this month. (Eek my brother graduates from high school NEXT month!) Linking up with Anne and Jenna!





Wearing:  Marc Jacobs Daisy.  Ian got it for me for Christmas, and I love it.  It smells so good, and it's not a strong scent.  I wonder if there are candles of the scent, because I would buy them all up.

Sipping: Wine, wine and more wine! After completing Whole30, this is what I was most looking forward to having again.  Nothing taste better after a stressful day than a cold glass of wine.  Okay let's be real, at the end of every day.

Wishlisting: I really want to take the kiddos to Disneyland.  When Max sees commercials for "the happiest place on Earth", he always says he wants to go there.  He'll say "We must go there Mommy.  We must go to the happiest place on Earth."  I think we'll wait for Emma to be older before we plan that trip.  I want them both to enjoy it, and remember it.

Writing: I got an Emily Ley Simplified Journal for Christmas, and I love writing in it.  It has a place for "brain dump" writing, a section to write about how you feel for the day, thoughts, something that went well, and something that was challenging.   I love it.  Sometimes I'm not great at expressing how I'm feeling, so it's a great to be able to write it all down.

Exploring:  Anchorage!  We're going there for a hockey tournament that Ian's playing in, and I'm excited! We get to see friends we haven't seen since last June, and my in-laws are coming down to meet up with us. It should be a fun time!

4 Weeks Fitness Challenge

The 4 week challenge is complete!!  Woohoo!!  I rocked 2 of my 3 goals.  I had no coffee, and I stuck to Whole30.  My workouts could have been way better, and I think had I rocked that goal I would have seen even better results.

Goals:
Drink only water and tea: I decided to not drink coffee for 30 days because I was drinking way too much of the yummy goodness. You could have called me a Gilmore for sure with the amounts I was consuming in a day.  No wonder I couldn't sleep at night!  I do plan on drinking coffee again, but not as much, and not with my sugary creamer that I love so much.

I LOVE COFFEE - This belongs on office wall... Right above our three coffee makers and wall of Melitta coffee.

Workout consistently (at least 5x a week): Big #fail to this one.  I was active this month, but not with designated workouts.  I need to make this habit.  Obviously. I did start running again, and I'm liking it!
Even if you can't physically see the results in front of you, every single effort is changing your body from the inside. NEVER GET DISCOURAGED! #Fitspiration #FitnessMotivation #KeepPushing


Sticking to Whole30: My first go round with Whole30 was a success! I lost 8 lbs, and a total of 5 inches.  I'm down a pant size, which I would say is exciting, but I went up a pant size after the miscarriage.  So basically I'm back to where I was before the miscarriage happened.  I have a lot of work to do, but I know I can do it.  Ian asked if after the 30 days I was going to eat everything I couldn't.  I will tell you that at the strike of midnight you will not find me in the kitchen binge eating on chocolate, cheese or wine.  Honestly, I'm kind of scared.   Before I did Whole30 I would get stomach aches often, couldn't sleep (all that coffee), and just felt sluggish.  Now, I feel good.  I sleep good.  I haven't had a stomach ache at all.   I don't want to mess all that up, but I do miss oatmeal.  I miss having protein pancakes.  I don't think I'll go crazy will all that I haven't been eating or drinking, but I think now I'll be more conscious of what I'm putting into my body.  We only have this body, might as well treat it good, right?

I really liked the 4 week fitness challenge that Erin and Kristin hosted.  It really put things into perspective. Not only about fitness, but how I think about myself.  I think we're always our hardest critic, and can be so hard on ourselves.  Choosing to be healthy is a lifestyle change, not just 30 days.  I know this, and I think before you really decide to make a change you have to be ready mentally.  I think from here on out, as long as I keep this blog going, once a month I'll check in with you all to let you know how I'm doing with my fitness.

The best perk about signing up for a swap box is being introduced to a new person and blog.  I hadn't come across Justine's blog, and I'm so glad we were paired.  I love her blog and all the crafts and DIY projects she posts about.  Have you seen the pallet wall she did in her sons room? I want one. 


When we received our box, and we opened it up it was all wrapped so pretty.  I thought to myself, "Oh man, I totally should have done that!" but I didn't think to.  Next time!  Everything was labeled with something that we were going to do together.  I loved it so much.  Justine was also super sweet and added a flower barrette for Emma.  

Max I loved everything, and every item was so thoughtful! I especially loved the envelope of crafts that she included for us!  Max favorite item was the Transformers shirt that Justine made!  Max is obsessed with Transformers at the moment.  I can't even tell you how many times we've watched Rescue Bots this past week.  

I already got my craft on!  Justine made a Washington state cutout with a map, and I was so excited! I've wanted to do this for the longest time!  I traced the state on the map and cut it out, glued the map to the cutout, and then framed it.  I love it next to our family picture in front of the Space Needle.

T-Ball

Max had his first T-ball practice, and I wanted to die from all the cuteness.  I get so giddy and giggly when he's dressed up in uniform to play a sport.   The baseball hat he's wearing was his Daddy's when he was little and played baseball.

Each kiddo did 2 practice hits and then one hit and run to first base.



We were so proud of Max.  My heart seriously wanted to burst. He had so much fun and he's now counting sleeps until next practice.  Baseball is my least favorite sport to watch, but I think with this kid playing...it's my favorite.

A Good Day

The weather was absolutely perfect.  70s, sunny, with a cool breeze.  I don't want the day to end.  We were outside most of the day.  Max rode his bike, we went to the lake and the kiddos enjoyed a milkshake, and I mowed the front and back yard.  Such a good day! 


They are both checking out the ducks in the water. 



Max got shoes for T-ball.  The best part was that they were only $11.

We had a visitor the other night.  Max wanted to keep the bunny as our pet. 

If we have many more days of weather like this, it's going to be a great Spring/Summer.  Tomorrow is Max's first T-ball practice.  Be ready for T-ball posts coming your way!

Would Have Been

Well...my would have been due date came and went.   A dear friend who has experienced a miscarriage as well sent me a text with the following proverb:

 "She is clothed in strength and dignity and she laughs without fear of the future"

Can I sob please?  The fact that I have friends who text me words of encouragement and strength all the time, but especially this month makes me feel so blessed.  This amazing girl gives me hope that one day my heart will be fully healed.  I think a piece will always be missing, but I'm telling you when I get text messages like that...it helps.

I remember when Ian and I started dating it seemed like everyone around us was getting married. You had wedding season. Then when we got married it seemed like everyone was having babies. You had baby season.   Well I think baby season is all the time.  Just this month I know of 4 sweet ladies who announced that they are expecting.  When I first miscarried and I saw a pregnancy announcement, a pregnant lady or a newborn baby it pretty much wrecked me.  Thanks God for rubbing it in my face. (I know God wasn't doing this, but it's how I felt.)  I would burst into tears.  I feel so bad that Max and Emma had to witness me falling apart many times, especially in the beginning when it was so raw.

Now, here we are in March.  Last night I ran 3 miles and I felt so good.  I feel like I'm starting to love running again.  I think I may have been on a runners high.  Then I got on Instagram, because obviously I have to gram about me running 3 miles.  I saw a pregnancy announcement.  Bam! Punch to my nonpregnant belly.  But...you know what? I didn't cry.  It didn't wreck me.  I felt a  tiny pang of jealousy, but mostly I felt genuinely happy for her.

A friend posted this on Facebook, and it's so true.

I know I can't live with the "would have beens".   My brain knows this, but it's taking my heart awhile to figure it out.  I'm not fully there yet, but I can say that I'm getting there.   What's helped me the most to get through this is talking about it.  You don't have to keep things bottled up.  You don't have to pretend that you're okay, when really you aren't.   To someone reading this who hasn't gone through a miscarriage, you won't understand the pain, but you can be there to listen to your friend.  Talking about it helps.  Crying about it helps.  

Thank you for reading and letting me talk about my miscarriage.  You are helping me get back to me. I have to let go at some point in order to move forward.

Our Weekend

This weekend was a great one.  The kiddos got boxes of love from my Auntie in NM. It was super sweet and thoughtful.  I think they thought it was Christmas with all the goodies.  They have been working on their puzzles nonstop, which was a perfect start to our rainy Saturday morning.

Then the sun came out, so we went on a walk.  I love all the trees that are blooming. So. Beautiful.

Sunday we spent having fun celebrating Ian's birthday a couple days early.  His birthday is tomorrow, but he has to work all day because there is a soccer game.  We started our morning having breakfast at Storyville Coffee.  I liked the vibe there, and the workers were so nice.  Even though I thought it was going to be hard to stick to Whole30, I did it!  Ian had a yummy looking peppered egg sandwich on a pretzel bun, and the kiddos shared a waffle.  I had a delicious bowl of fruit.

Kiddos get free airplane cookies there, and they are super cute.  Max and Emma had fun playing with their cookie while eating it.  When it came time to leave and Emma still had half of her cookie, she wasn't happy that she had to put it in the bag and wait until we got home to eat it.  The tantrum she had...she's so dramatic.

After breakfast we made our way to Lucky Strike to have some fun!  Max is in heaven anytime we go there.  He has so much fun playing the race car games.  His highlight was definitely playing bubble hockey and air hockey.  

Our last stop before heading home to watch basketball was Trophy Cupcakes.  This place was the cutest cupcake place I've ever been to, and the cupcakes....oh man they look so good.  

You are looking at Samoas, Chocolate Guinness Stout, Strawberry Lemonade, Triple Chocolate, and S'More yummy goodness. I took a s/more cupcake and put it in the freezer until next week! Let me tell you though, they smell so good.


Week 3 fitness update:  All is well.  I'm excited for the final post next Monday and to see how the other ladies in the link up did with their goals. Since starting Whole30, I have to say I sleep so good at night.  I think eating better and cutting out coffee have helped in that area.  You can have coffee while doing Whole30, but I just chose to not have it for 30 days.  I think once the 30 days are up I will go back to drinking it, but definitely not as much as I was having each day!

#boyMomBoxSwap Buddy

I'm a sucker for a box swap exchange.  This is my fourth one, and I think my favorite because it included my favorite boy, Max.   Stephanie and Liz came up with the idea, and it's a great one. I hopped right over and signed up.  I'll be doing a link up post on March 30th (you lucky ducks get TWO posts that day, because it's also my last post for the 4 week fitness challenge!) showing off all the fun and thoughtful items that our buddy sent us.  I had a lot of fun putting together a box full of goodies for her and C. Easter Decor

With holidays comes getting to decorate.  I don't go all out with decorations.  I do like to have a festive wreath, and decor for our kitchen table.  I always buy things from Target after the holiday when it's on clearance.  Yay for cute and cheap decorations! 

I got the table runner a couple years ago on clearance.  

I don't know where we got the basket, but today I spiced it up with some flowers that I got in the $1 bin section at Target.  The glittered eggs are from a couple years ago as well.  Emma spotted them, and loves taking them out of the basket.  She holds one in her hand and says, "Oh prettyyyyy!"


I added a few of the flowers to both festive wreaths. 

I was going to make a wreath for Easter, but I think I'll make one for Spring/Summer. 

Over on the ever so creative and inspiring Pinterest, I found a few decorations that look fun and easy to make.  This center piece is so pretty and would look lovely on any table. 

Who doesn't love art with buttons?  I am slightly obsessed with this, and need to actually try my hand at it.  I love the way it looks, and it's so cute.  

We decorated Max and Emma's bedroom door for Christmas, and they loved it!  I think we'll have to make their door festive for Easter!

I've been such a sentimental, mushy mess lately.  Take a walk down memory lane with me....

Look at those smiles.  This was taken at Savage Rock in Alaska.  This was my 
first trip to AK, and I'm oh so happy in the picture, because this was the day after Ian
 proposed to me.  My first trip to AK is one I will never forget.  If you've never been to
 AK, the summer time is beautiful (I think winter is more beautiful.), and you should
 definitely visit the beautiful state at least once in your lifetime. 


Max...oh my sweet boy.  He was 14 months in this picture.  We took him to all the 
Coyotes games, the first when he was only 4 weeks old.  He lived for hockey.  He 
would sit there,  watch, and be so happy.  I miss taking him to watch the Coyotes play.

Emma girl!  Our little burrito.  She was a ninja when wrapped up like a burrito 
and could always take out her arms.  I can't believe in May this girl will be TWO. 

Ian's birthday is Tuesday.  He has to work, and there's a soccer game that night as well.  The kiddos and I have a few surprises up our sleeves to make Sunday a special day for him.  I'm not sure if I can stick to Whole30, because the plans include some delicious treats.  Oh goodness, whatdoIdo? Whole22??

St. Patrick's Day Fun

Happy St. Patrick's Day from my green wearing loves. 

A leprechaun came to visit the kiddos and left a little treat. 

Max was a blur of happiness. 

I love making any holiday magical for my kiddos.  Is it silly? Maybe, but they get so excited.  Thankfully Emma can't tell Max who is doing all the sneaky fun stuff around the house.  She just runs beside me squealing with excitement, and plays along when Max sees it for the first time.   Max has been asking for Lucky Charms every time we go down the cereal aisle, and I always say no.  He's also been asking for Big Hero 6 since we first saw it.  He plays Big Hero 6 at school with his friends.  He's Beymax.  The movie is really good.  When I picked it out at the store Emma kept saying, "Tank you! Tank you!" 

Speaking of Emma.  Oh my sweet, sweet girl didn't nap yesterday.  Then we had a friend come over for a play date and she played so hard with Max and H.  When it came to dinner time she just couldn't keep her eyes open. 





She passed out for about 30 minutes and then woke up fully recharged and ready to go.  This girl has so much energy.  

Hope your week is going well so far.  If you're going out and enjoying some green beer, have one for me! Day 17 of Whole30, means no green beer for me. Sad face.  Enjoy the rest of your day!

Week 2 Fit Challenge

Week 2 was a rough one.  Day 10-13 of Whole30 were H.A.R.D.  I had no energy and felt pretty crappy.  My workouts consisted of me doing housework and then laying on the floor while the kiddos played.  I would have stayed in bed all day.  I did not want to cook, and I just wanted to make a sandwich.  Bread, I miss you.   Then I woke up on Day 14, and holy crap I felt amazing!  I ran a slow 2 miles, and felt like a million bucks! I also came across this blog, and found some awesome recipes that I can't wait to try over the next 14 days.  My weight didn't change this week, but I measure myself and over the week I lost an inch off my waist, hips, and thighs...so I'd say that's pretty awesome.

Goals recap:

Drinks of choice being tea and water.  I'm doing so good with this goal.  I add cucumber or fruit to my water, and that really helps.  I start my day off and end my day with a cup of green tea. I do miss coffee though....

Working out 5 times a week: well week 2 that didn't happen.  At all.  I started off this week with a morning workout, and I'm hoping to get a few runs in this week once Ian gets home.  A sweet friend has gotten into running and she's posting pictures of races and medals.  She's totally inspiring me to get back to running, and sign up for a race.  It's crazy that next week it will be one year since I completed my first half marathon.  I want to get back to that.

Whole30: If you asked me a few days ago about Whole30, I was complaining and saying how over it I am.  Today, I have a new found determination to get through it!

Friday Fun

Today we went to a new park, and we loved it!  We met Emeral and A, and had some fun.  We also found a place to sit and have a picnic.  It was really cute. 

Emma was looking for land...or a slide to go down. 

Max climbed to the seat by himself, and climbed down.  He
was pretty proud of himself. 

Emma wanted to be cool and pretend that she was climbing, but
she decided to stare off into the distance and pose. 

While we were having our picnic, Max and Emma were spoiling me 
with the flowers they were picking, picking and more picking. 

So. Much. Fun. 

Oh, just surfing in the park.
