Friday Favorites

It's the last day in September!  Crazy!  Not only did this week go by fast, but this whole month was a blur.  This week was a good a good.  I had some quality one on one time with Emma and Max.  So let's just to some of my favorite moments this week.

Emma LOVING her daycare.  She loves it!  It makes me so happy!  She's been there 4 days and she's already learned so much.  She came home telling us the parts of plant.  The curriculum is so good and I love, love that she's so happy.

Every morning when we leave to take Max to school we always look at the sky.  The kids will point on the colors in the sky, the clouds and the moon if it's still visible.  Thursday morning the sky was so beautiful.  GA is beautiful, and the weather is finally cooling off.  I'm wearing a cardigan as I type this!  Hello, Fall!

I had to go to the HR office of the school district I'm working in, and I had checked the directions to see how long it would take the day before.  It had said 24 minutes.  The day of, I had dropped Emma off at school and had to go over the paperwork.  I got home around 8:20 and checked the directions for the time estimate to get there....one hour!  I had to quickly get ready and leave.  Hello mom hair.  I was going to take pictures for my badge and wanted to do my hair.  #fail. Oh well.  I got there and there was a room of about 20 other people.  I had heard a lady say she just moved here, so I asked where she was from...Santa Fe, NM! (I'm from NM, for those of you who don't know.)  Of all the places!  I walked out of the office with my badge and an official employee of the district!!!

I watched Me Before You on Tuesday.  I sobbed when I read the book and Max told me I shouldn't read the book anymore.  I had started watching the movie without the kids, but had to finish it with them home.  I was crying and both Max and Emma look at me sand say, "Uh-oh! She's crying!" I loved the book more, but the movie was good.  I still have to read Me After You, which I haven't gotten around to doing so.  If you need a book to read, I highly recommend.

This.  I cannot wait until November!!

Tomorrow Max has his lacrosse game at 8:15.  Bring me all the coffee. He also has a birthday party to go to, which he's so excited about.   And there's a festival I want to checkout.  Tomorrow is going to be busy!  See you back here next week!  Happy Weekend!!

Linking with Andrea, Narci and Erika!

Sky Ball

Max had lacrosse practice yesterday.  I just love watching him improve every week.  He really loves the sport...well he loves ALL sports.  They ended practice with playing Sky Ball where the coach throws it high in the air, and you have to catch it.  Max did!  I love the coaches reaction in the video and Max's reaction once he throws it to the coach and looks over at me.  I love that kid.

Today he woke up not feeling so well.  His throat is hurting and he's a bit warm.  I told him I was going to keep him home and he was so upset.  He loves school. I told had to remind him that tomorrow is a day of fun for him and he needs to get better.  Tomorrow is Donuts with Dad, he has Art, it's Friday and he gets to have hot lunch at school.  Day of Fun!   Right now he's snuggled on the coach, under a blanket, watching cartoons.  I hope he's better by tomorrow.

We dropped Emma off this morning, and guys, she LOVES her daycare.  I am so happy!!! They have an app that they upload pictures throughout the day and videos for the parents to see.  Max's teacher also does the same thing in her class.  I love it.  I'm totally going to use the app in my classroom for the parents.

Can you believe that tomorrow is the last day of September?!  I've been in a baking mood for like that past two weeks.  I've made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, and banana muffins last night.  Fall is for baking right?

Happy Friday Eve, friends!  Have a great day!!

Life Lately

I meant to post a weekend happingings post, but never got around to it.  #fail  This weekend Max his first lacrosse game followed by his second game.  There are only 2 other teams in his league so they play round robin style.  Max was a little hesitant at first, but warmed up to playing.  His team just formed a few weeks ago, and the other two teams have been together since the spring.  One team was just a tad but too intense.  I think their coach forgot they are 6 and 7 years old, not high schoolers.

I love seeing Max in his lacrosse gear.  All the heart eyes for these two.

As we were walking back to the car Emma was holding Max's lacrosse stick.  Future lacrosse player here!  Oh, and they call it lax for short.  I didn't know this.  I had gone to Play it Again Sports and was paying for the gear and the guy asked, "Oh you have a lax player?"  Umm..yes??
It was ridiculously hot so we took the kiddos for some ice cream.  Ian got a banana split and the kids were so excited!  They ate it all up.
I had a solo grocery shopping trip and this sign made me laugh a little too hard.
Tuesday was a BIG day for Emma.  I had some paper work I had to fill out for work, so Emma had her first day in her preschool 3's class!  She was so excited.  I always ask Max what he wants to be on the first day of school.  I started the tradition with Emma.  I asked her while I was putting on her shoes, and she looks at me without hesitation and sweetly says, "I want to be Yoda!"  She meant it too.  Max quickly chimed in that he wants to be Darth Vader.
I walked her to her classroom and she held on to my hand tightly.  She became so shy and quiet.  She was scared.  A cute little girl came up to her and asked if she wanted to play.  The little girl was wearing a Star Wars shirt, and Emma's face lit up.  She let go my hand, and went to play.
I went to the car and cried.  I'm definitely struggling with mom guilt.  I'm so excited to be going back to work, but I'm so sad that I have to put Emma in daycare.  It makes me question whether or not me going back to work is good for her.  Is it good for our family?  In the end I know she's at a great daycare, where she's going to make lots of new friends, her teachers are so sweet, she's going to learn so much (seriously the curriculum is amazing) and she's going to blossom.  I'm just going to miss spending my days with her.
While I'm on the sob train...I'm also nervous about work.  I really, really loved the school I was at last year.  I loved the ladies I taught with.  I just really loved Washington.  The school I'm at is one of the best in the state of  GA.  It's in the top 5%.  Both the principal and assistant principal are really nice.  One of the coaches emailed me to welcome me to the family.  That made me smile, because they consider themselves to be family.  All the warm fuzzies.  I know it's going to be fine, but I can't help but be nervous.  Monday is the day.  Monday I'm back to being a working mom.
But now...now I'm just sad because I'm missing my Emma girl.  I'm using this as a transition week to let her get use to being back in the daycare setting again.  She's totally fine.  I guess it's more for me.  I need to get use to her being in that setting again, away from me.  #ALLthetears  Maybe watching This is Us will make me feel better, or make me have a good cry.

Friday Favorites on a Saturday

Quick edition of Friday Favorites...on a Saturday!  It was a busy, eventful week!  Linking up with Andrea, Narci and Erika to share some of my favorite moments!

1. I GOT A JOB!  Woohoo!!  I'll be back in the teaching world very soon, and I'm super excited!  Ian and I celebrated Monday night with some champagne (which isn't my favorite to drink, unless there is some orange juice mixed in), because new jobs call for some sparkly.  I had two glasses and goodness...I forgot to set my alarm and Tuesday morning was a blur of rushing.
2. Max and Emma having a sweet moment.  I love their sweet moments together.  Of course it was short lived, because Emma grabbed the book from him and let him know it was hers.
3. Max got his lacrosse jersey, which they don't call it that.  It's a pinny or a penny.  I don't know.  All I do know is that he put it on and all of a sudden looked like he was 15.  He has his first game today!
4. Max had his Fun Run yesterday and this girl cheered him on.  She so desperately wants to be in school like her brother.  Soon baby girl.  Soon.
5. Max...oh this boy makes me so proud.  He had such a good time at his Fun Run. He ran every lap with a smile on his face.  He would run by and wave at us as well yelled, "Goooooo Max!!!"  I even got a bit teary eyed knowing that I was going to miss out on other events that happen during the day because I'm going back to work.  I thought he had run 33 laps, but we got an e mail yesterday that said he ran 35 laps!
With that, I must go!  We have to get ready for Max's game.  He's so excited.  Ian gets to see him play for the first time.  You better believe I will be sharing his first game here next week.  Happy Weekend!!

Weekly Lessons

Linking up with Mattie and Lexi today!!

Some things I've learned this week:

Lacrosse gear is expensive.  I don't get it.  Kid gear shouldn't be so expensive. They are tiny people. Thankfully he's borrowing a helmet from the league, because that alone ranges from $100-250+.  Crazy.  Hopefully he get gets some good use from the gear, or maybe I'll just have him wear it...every day.

Interviews never get less nerve racking.  Not like I've had a ton of interviews, but I've had two in the past year and both times I've been so nervous I want to throw up.  This time around I talked to a friend right before and she took my mind off of it.  Then when I went to the school, I chatted up the secretary until the principal came out.  The secretary and I are total BFFs.   Luckily I only had to interview with the principal and the assistant principal and didn't have an office full of people asking me questions.  The interview itself lasted an hour and a half!  I ended the day with getting the job offer from the principal, and Tuesday morning I got the official job offer from the district!!  I accepted and did a happy dance.  I really lucked out, because school has been going on for over a month.  I'm going to be working at an amazing school.  Ah-mazing.

Just because something is more expensive doesn't mean it's better.  I checked out daycares Tuesday with Emma and one is a hop and skip away from the school.  It's also the most expensive, and the least impressive.  Sad face.  Total bummer, but I did see 2 really great ones.  I'm excited for Emma to be around kiddos her age and get back into the classroom setting.  One of the places even has a little cafeteria for the kids to eat snack and meals.  I died over the cuteness.  (We saw 2 not impressive daycares on Wednesday as well...)

NBC puts out some great shows.  I loved Parenthood and was so sad when it ended.  I watched This Is Us this morning on Hulu.  Guys, it's so good.  SO GOOD.  I laughed, I cried, I had all the feels.  I'm excited to see where this show goes.  All the heart eye emojis.  You need to watch it.

Weekly Lessons

I know you're thinking, "It's Thursday and she's doing weekly lessons today?"  I know, I know.  Yesterday Emma had her first day of soccer and I couldn't wait to share all the cuteness!

So today is the day for some weekly lessons.  Linking up with Mattie and Lexi.

I should have taken naps when I was a kid, and appreciate them.  I remember my Grandma would make us take a nap at 2:00, and I hated it.  Or we'd have to nap before we could go swimming.  Now, I wish I could take all the naps in the world, especially on Wednesdays.  I know on Wednesdays we wear pink and drink wine, but Wednesday should also be for naps.  With Emma having soccer practice and Max having lacrosse practice after school...I was full of yawns and ready for bed by 6:30.

Nap queen right here! #SaboSkirt:

Keep up with my Fantasy Football. Guys, I was so excited about  my team, and then I played my friend, Jakub, who has Big Ben and Antonio Brown.  Umm...I was wanting them to do well because I wanted the Steelers to win, which they did, which made Jakub kick my butt in our league.  I don't want to lose again!  If you watched the MNF game and you saw AB score a touchdown and then twerk or whatever you want to call it in the endzone...you can't unsee it.  I cringe just thinking about it.
The 15 Most Addicting Things About Playing Fantasy Sports:

Pick your battles when it comes to your kids.  Seriously, we could probably have an argument about everything, but somethings just aren't worth having crying kids over.  For example, today Max put on a pair of socks that weren't ankle socks, so he loves to pull them up as high as he can.  I told them to push them down a little.  He rolled them down, and thought it looked so cool.  Was that cool once?  I feel like it was.  I told him he wasn't going to wear his socks like that, which made him mad and grumpy with me.  I like our mornings, because he's normally so happy and smiley.  Even though the rolled socks bothered me (I don't know why) I let him.  Roll your socks, Max.  Roll your heart out.

Don't drink and drive.  Even if you feel like you are okay, don't drive.  Today on FB a friend reacted to a story about a girl in AZ who was killed by a drunk driver.  I happen to watch the news video and they interviewed the girl's mom.  My heart stopped.  I worked with the mom at the first school I taught at.  We taught 3rd grade together.  Her daughter was killed Monday.  She was 19.   Driving drunk is stupid.  I lost a cousin to a drunk driver.  It makes me so angry and sad to think about it.  Don't drink and driveEVER.

I'm doing a DietBet.  My first one, and I'm pretty pumped about it.  I have to lose 4% of my weight in 4 weeks.  I joined Mama Laughlin's game, and I love her.  Figured I might as well motivate myself to lose some weight.  If I reach my goal I get my $35 back and split the pot with the other winners.  I plan on winning.

I'm making this for dinner tonight.  You really need to check out skinnytaste if you already haven't.  We're love it.  I'm also loving that it's almost Friday.  Thank.Goodness

Emma Plays Soccer

Today is the day that Emma has been waiting for, her first day of soccer practice! Before we even left the house she let me know that she didn't like her socks, shin pads or hair.  Sweet as can be, but goodness is she feisty.

They all were able to pick their spots to sit, and she looked over at me.  My heart was a puddle.  She is so stinkin' cute.
Emma was batman and the cones were bad guys.  Emma saved the day!

Once practice was over the coach gave the kiddos a bracelet that has super powers.  Emma has been wearing it like it's made of gold.  She LOVED practice and can't wait to go back next week!  The coach pulled me aside afterwards and she said that Emma is a natural. Emma just might be the next Mia Hamm.

Weekend of Sports

It was so hard waking up this morning.  Everyone wanted to sleep a little bit longer.  We were all going to have a case of the Mondays, but we remembered the Steelers play tonight.  It didn't make us less tired, but it gave us something to look forward to at the end of our day.  We're all use to watching football earlier.  Morning games were at 10:00, here it's an afternoon game at 1:00.  The night game was at 5:30, and here it's 8:30.  Sweet Max loves to watch Carrie Underwood sing the Sunday Night Football song.  Last night he stayed up passed his bedtime to watch.  I think there will be many football games that I won't watch and many that I won't see the ending to. I'm getting old.  I will be drinking coffee all day.  On to the weekend!

This weekend was such a good one.  We kicked it off Friday with a baseball game.  Ian texted me Friday during the day asking if I wanted to go.  Baseball is my least favorite sport, but it sounded fun.  I knew Max and Emma would love it.  It was our first Atlanta Braves game.  Growing up I learned the game of baseball in my PE class.  I don't know why, but I disliked the Braves.  Even now, they are my least favorite team...right up there with a certain soccer team.  So it was kind of weird going to a game and cheering for the team that I grew up not liking.

One of us was more excited about watching baseball than the other....
It was a hot and sticky night.  I was so pumped because I had done my hair and was bragging on SnapChat that my hair was going to last all night.  The minute we sat in our seats I put it up in a ponytail.
My three loves! Max and Emma were given A stickers and they were so excited.  Max slept with his on and said he wanted to keep it on his shirt so he could show his friends.  I guess he doesn't want his shirt washed...

It's the Braves last season at Turner Field.  Pretty cool that we were able to see a game here before they move to their new home.

Saturday Max and I spent some time running errands together.  It was nice to get that one on one time with him.  He is the sweetest and held my hand.  We made a quick stop at Target and I got him a cake pop and some Pokémon cards.  He was one happy boy. Now he is determined to earn money so he can buy Pokémon cards.  I failed to take any pictures.
The community we live in has a FB page which is awesome to keep up with the happenings.  I also found ourselves a babysitter!  I was super excited because that meant I could go to the Falcons game with Ian.  We hadn't been to a football game together since Arizona...so over 4 years.   It was so fun! The stadium was full of energy and loud!
They did a really nice tribute for September 11th.  I was teary eyed through the entire video.  I can't believe it's been 15 years.
This guy.  Life is fun with him.
Recipe update.  All the skinnytaste recipes I made last week were delicious!!  I think the turkey meatballs were our favorite.  I will be making all of them again!
I hope you guys had a great weekend, and have an ever better week!  The weather is suppose to be in the 80s for the next 10 days, and I'm pretty excited!

Friday Favorites

Oh Friday, I was so ready for you!  It was a short week, but goodness it felt long.  I'm linking up with Andrea, Narci and Erika today!

Some of my favorite moments this week:

1. Emma and I having our breakfast smoothie.  She thinks they are banana milkshakes, and I'll just keep letting her think that.  I added blackberries yesterday and it turned the smoothie a lovely purple.  Emma was impressed.
2. Early release days.  Max got out early from school.  I let him pick where we had lunch.  We also had a frozen yogurt date.  We were going to go to the park, but it was 92 degrees out, and too hot to have any fun outside.  So instead we went home and they played with legos while we listen to Kidz Bop on Pandora. We are a wild bunch that knows how to have some F-U-N.
3. Kensignton Gray.  Erin from Two Thirds Hazel opened up an Etsy shop, and the bows/headbands she sells are beyond adorable.  Emma loves them, and she actually wore the headband all day.  All day! She normally pulls out bows or flat out refuses to wear them.
4. Max playing lacrosse.  I love it.  Watching him warm-up and learn the skills he needs for the game is the cutest.  All the heart eye emojis for this kid.   Emma starts her toddler class next week and I know I'll be the same giggly, ohhing and awwing mess over her.  I can't wait!
5.  This post.  The blog world is funny.  You can read a person blog for years and you feel like you know them. Bloggers invite you into their lives and I love it. Shay's family is a party of 5 about to become a party of 6, and I just love her story so much.  All the feels.
Happy Friday!  I hope you have a great weekend!!  See you back here Monday!

Yesterday was Max's first lacrosse practice, and it was the cutest thing to watch. Coach brought them all over and had them introduced themselves. They had to say their name, favorite color and favorite super hero. I could barely make out Max's little voice. He said, "My name is Max.  My favorite color is blue.  I like Spider-Man."  I for sure thought he was going to say Darth Vader for the superhero.  One of his teammates is a twin and has triplet siblings, another little boy has twin little brothers, and his coach is a twin.  Crazy!

The first thing the coach did was teach the boys the parts of the lacrosse stick.  From top to bottom the parts are called: Head, neck, shaft and butt.  Who named the parts?  He said butt and all the boys started to giggle.  Max even looked over at me with an OMG look on his face.   After practice Max went over the parts with Emma and she scolded him, "Butt is a bad word!"
They did some stretches, couple of drills and practiced throwing the ball.  The entire time I was giggling and ohhing and awwing over the cuteness.  I know nothing about lacrosse.  Well, I know the parts of the stick, but other than that not a whole lot.  I'm excited to learn more about the sport, and to watch Max play.
When practice was over they all gathered and did a little cheer.  Max ran to me with a huge smile on his face.  He can't wait until next practice.
Emma had fun at practice as well.  She was kicked back and relaxed.  She also made a friend and they talked all things Elsa, puppies and shared some grapes.   Adorable.
Today Max gets out of school early.  We have plans to get frozen yogurt, play at the park and maybe go to the library.  Have a great day, friends!

Weekly Lessons

Here we are at Wednesday, which means: Weekly Lessons with Mattie and Lexi!

#1 and probably the most important.  Don't interact with a toddler having a tantrum.  Don't laugh at them.  Don't engage them in any way.  Don't look them in the eyes.  I mentioned last week not to take your kid to the store.  I didn't learn my lesson, and I probably never will.  Emma and I went grocery shopping, which we've done many times.  We've passed the balloons that they have at the end of the check out lanes many times.  I've never, ever brought one for Max or Emma.  Yesterday, Emma wanted me to get one.  I said the forbidden word to a threenagers ears, "No."   Stomping, crossed arms and pouting followed.  I had to put the angry child back in cart so that I could make it to the car. I'm raising the white flag Emma.  No more tantrums please.  Ever.

2. Meal plan!!  It makes dinner time so much easier if I know what I'm going to cook, and it keeps me from just picking up something easy because I already know what we have planned.  There are some great blogs that share their meal plans for the week (The Gracious Wife and Mix and Match Mama).  I also love to just go type in what I'm wanting to make over on skinnytaste, whether it be crock pot meal, chicken, or Mexican and get a variety of  recipes to choose from.  This week I'm making maple Dijon chicken, turkey meatballs and spaghetti and santa fe chicken over brown rice.  Yum!!

Meal Prep Sunday! Need Help? Ask me how!!! alyssayourish@gmail.com:

3.  It's okay not to like the pumpkin spice latte, or PSL as people call it, from Starbucks.  Guys, I try to like it.  Every year I think maybe I'll give it another try.  Everyone loves them.  Then I get one, take one sip, and think, "Why did I waste my money?!"  I'm just not on the PSL train. #sorrynotsorry  I am on the peppermint mocha train and the salted caramel mocha train.
BRACE YOURSELVES The pumpkin spice latte posts are coming - BRACE YOURSELVES The pumpkin spice latte posts are coming Misc:

4.  Wear sunscreen and more sunscreen.  We went to the lake this weekend, and I applied sunscreen...only not enough.  My back is red like a lobster.   Lesson sadly learned.
Sunburn relief. Pinning this for future references this summer:

Happy Wednesday!!  Today Max has his first lacrosse practice, and he's so excited!
