Life Update

Hello....it's me.....the girl who blogs once in a blue moon.  Guys, I just can't find the time to sit down regularly and blog it up.  Life with 2 young children, a full time job...that leaks into hours at home working as well, makes for early bedtimes for all.  I kid you not, I've been going to be before 9 on most nights.  It's not something I'm mad about, because I love my sleep, but it really makes me feel old.  A little life update for all.

Emma: She's 3 years almost 8 months and she can have the attitude of a 13 year old.  She is also the sweetest girl ever.  She loves school.  She's been learning how write all her letters and is pretty good at writing her name.   She colors really well, and I'm amazed at her art work that she does at school.  She loves for books to be read to her, and lately loves to read books by herself out loud.  It's really cute listening to her read.   The girl loves her some music to dance to.  She would live on goldfish (whole grain kind...we try to be super healthy over here.) and milk if I let her.

Max: His bff moved away over winter break, and schools not the same for him.  Makes my heart hurt for him.   He still likes school, but that love he had for it when he was in Kinder has gone away.  Every day he tells us his 3 favorite parts of his day.  2 of the 3 are almost always recess and lunch time.  He's always full of knowledge, because he knows everything. He'll tell us this too.  He loves basketball and football.  He's cheering for the Falcons in the Super Bowl.   He would live on pb and honey sandwiches and milk if I let him.

Ian: The man is busy with work.  Like really busy.  He's worked for sports teams for the past 11 years (I think) and I feel like this is the first year that he's just soooooo busy with work.  It's his first season with the Globetrotters, and they are currently in season.  Have you been to a game?   He's also coaching Max's basketball team, which leaves me looking at him with all the heart eyes.  He would live on Newk's (Panera Break like restaurant)  if I let him.

Me: I'm currently teaching my 9th year.  I'm really enjoying my new school and teammates.  I'm only teaching Math and Science, which has taking some getting use to.  I really miss teaching Reading and Writing.   I've been a gym member for just over a month and I'm loving it.  I'm down 7 pounds and counting.  I could live on Starbucks and Chick-Fil-A if I could.  Sadly, what I love at both places isn't the healthiest.

Emma recently got over the flu and strep.  Max celebrated his 100th day of school.  Ian met up and had dinner and drinks with a friend from AZ.  I had a root canal....that's a post for another day.  I'm traumatized.   We also tagged along with Ian on a work trip to Chattanooga.  There was a Globetrotters game, and it was so much fun.  I love Chattanooga.  It reminds us of Portland.

100 year old Max.  His teacher sent this to me, and I couldn't stop laughing.
Our first time eating ice cream at a Ben and Jerry's and it was so worth it!
The kiddos both got cotton candy and I got The Tonight Dough, and wholly molly it was good.

Ian had me on the list for parking, and the security guard gave me the hardest time parking.  I didn't have a badge, and she thought Ian was a Globetrotter.  I parked right by the bus, which was super cool, but Ian had to come and get us to show his badge.  I mean, I'm a mom with 2 kids....I don't know what she thought I was going to do....

My favorite place to eat, I think ever.  Maple Street Biscuit Company.  The food is so good and inexpensive.

Coming up for us: Emma gets to register for Pre-K. (excuse me while I cry)  Max has a Valentine's Party coming up, where I'm sure he'll pick Star Wars valentine cards.  Ian turns the big 3-5 in a couple months.  I'm looking forward to Spring Break....because teaching is hard people, and those breaks keep me sane.

I'll leave you with a random tidbit.  The year we moves to WA, Seattle went to the Super Bowl and won.  This year we  moved to GA, the Falcons are going to the Super Bowl.  If they win, the next state we move to I'm placing a bet in Vegas for that team to win the Super Bowl.  (I shared this with my Mom and she said my brother already said this.  Great minds think alike!)

Happy Weekend!

Our Weekend

This weekend started early with basketball practice and a game for Max.  He played so great!  He made a couple baskets, made some assists and blocked a shot.  It was pretty awesome!  I love that he has his own sense of style.  He always has to wear his socks pulled up as high as they can go.  When it comes to basketball, he would play all time if he could.  He is so competitive and wants to win.  He's the only kid on his team who pays attention to the score.  When he scores, he'll look over at me with a huge smile on his face and a little hop in his step.  Really, if you were to look at him at any point in the game, you'd see a smile on his face.  The kid loves sports, and is definitely in his happy place when he's playing a game.

Every game there is a certain lesson that they are working on.  This weeks was Teamwork, and Max did an amazing job at passing the ball to his teammates.   He was excited about the medal for about 5 minutes, and then he started swinging it around.  I was waiting for him to clock Emma in the head with it, but luckily he did not.  I think I was more excited about him getting the medal.  Ian said it's more for the moms, and I proved the point by being so exited and taking his picture.  #momlife
Emma...my sweet, sweet Emma.  Ian had showed us a video of the nurses at a hospital in Pittsburgh wrapping the newborn babies in Terrible Towels.  A little while later Emma was quietly playing with her doll and she bring her over to me.  She had wrapped her in the Terrible Towel, and was so proud.  Cool fact: Her doll was my doll when I was little.  Same clothes, baby wrap and basket.  My mom kept it and gave it to us last time we were in NM.  I love how gentle Emma is with her baby.  She will be a great mom in the far future.
Ian took Max to lunch and to get a haircut yesterday, so me and this girl went on a lunch date and then grocery shopping.  For being 3 year old, Emma is so thoughtful.  She's loving and she'll let you know daily how much she loves you.  She's polite and will always yell a sweet, "Thank you for getting me____'"  She gives the best hugs.  Her voice is so sweet and music to my ears (most of the time).  She also has her moments when she is the sassiest girl and begs to sit in timeout with her diva attitude.  She can cry at the drop of a hat, which makes me believe that she would make a talented actress.   She is all girly girl and loves all things that sparkle.  Her nails need to be painted weekly, the more skirts in her wardrobe the happier she is, and she loves to slather her lips in her princess lip smackers.  She also loves a good turkey sandwich with cheese and pickles.
Today we have no school and we are going to have a picnic lunch and playdate with a friend from Max's class.  He happens to have a sister Emma's age, and a mom my age.  Ha! Just kidding about the mom.  I'm not sure how old she is.
Happy Monday!  Some words I came across that are so true.  If you can't be kind, be quiet.   And with that, I hope you have a great week.  The kiddos and I are tagging along with Ian on a work trip this Friday, and I'm super excited!! Only a 3 day work week for me. Happy. Dance.

Guys! It snowed in Georgia last night!  We were on #snowwatch at our house for a couple hours, before the freezing rain turned to snow!  Max and Emma had me checking the weather app on my phone, and we would go look outside about every 5 minutes.  Finally it started to snow, and outside we went!  Max and Emma caught snowflakes in their mouths, we danced, there were snowballs thrown, there was ice skating in the street, screeches of excitement, giggling and fun memories made.

There wasn't a lot of snow that fell, and it was so cold throughout the night that the snow froze.  Both kiddos were bummed that there wasn't fluffy piles of snow to make a snowman.  Though we did go play outside this morning, and have fun on the frozen snow.  Max was pointing out all icebergs that he saw.  I couldn't stop laughing.  It was so cute to hear him say it.  I posted some snaps (jenwink08) if you want to see our fun from last night to this morning.

Max and Emma make everything so magical.  They've seen snow before, but you would have thought last night was their first time witnessing a snowfall.  Their little voices were full of excitement, and they would have stayed outside all night if we would have let them.  The first thing Emma said this morning when she woke up was, "Is it still snowing Mommy?"
It may not have been a lot of snow to fall, but we made a lot of memories in the past 12 hours.  Seeing how excited they are with snow almost makes me want to live somewhere it snows a lot...almost
Stay warm this weekend!!  We'll be drinking hot chocolate, snuggled in blankets, watching football.  It's playoffs!  Steelers play tomorrow!  #HereWeGo

Carousel Ride

While my Mom was here we went to the mall.  There is a carousel that Max and Emma love to ride.  We told them that they had to be good while we walked around the mall and if they were they could ride the carousel.  They kept saying how excited they were to ride the ferris wheel.   It was really cute. When we got on the carousel there was a horse in between Max and Emma and Emma sweetly said, "Oh Mommy, why don't you ride the horsey too!"  Umm. No.

Emma hates for me to do her hair in the morning.  I'm lucky if she lets me put it in a ponytail.  While my Mom was here she let her do her hair.  I'd ask her if I could fix her hair, and she'd tell me, "No! I want Grandmom to braid my hair." and walk out of the room.  Since Grandmom has been gone, she's back to only letting be brush her hair.  Total diva that girl is.
I came across a food blog that I am obsessed with.  Sweet Pea and Saffron is amazing, and I'm so excited to start prepping for lunch during the week!
I've been going to the gym for  9 days now, and I've worked out 7 of the 9 days, and two of those have been early morning workouts.  I set my alarm for 4:45, and let me tell you it's not that easy getting up that early.  The first day I walked into the gym at 5:00, the guy at the front desk was so chipper.  He asked me how I was doing, and I just looked at him.  He laughed and said, "You're here!  That's all that matters!"  I'm not a morning person.  I'm not even talkative that early until I have my coffee.  I need a shirt that says, "Don't talk to me.  I haven't had my coffee."  The gym isn't busy that early, so it's nice.  I jam out to Pop and Hip Hop Power Workout and Britney Spears on Pandora, and I sweat.  It feels so good.  I'm going to keep going in the morning before work.   When I turned 34, I said I wanted to make this a healthy year for me.  I plan to do just that!
Today is my last of winter break.  The kiddos and I are going to go have lunch with Ian!  Then tomorrow it's back to reality.
Happy Wednesday!!  I hope you are having a great week!

Life Lately

I had meant to post a few times before the new year, but turns out there just isn't enough time in the day.  So instead of a couple posts you get one big one with everything we've been up to since before Christmas.  A true "Life Lately".

We got a real Christmas tree this year, a first for our family.  The excitement of a new tree never wore off once during the holiday season.  Real trees are so much better!!  It took awhile for us to actually put ornaments on it.  When we finally decorated Max and Emma were beyond excited.  I sat back and watched them in the moment.  Both kiddos are growing up so fast, and when I see them in sweet moments like decorating the tree together,  I want to bottle it up.
Max and Emma went to their first NBA game thanks to our friend Jakub! It was awesome!!  They both took it all in and danced to the music.  It was so fun!!
Christmas Eve!  We normally open one gift on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas Day, but this year Ian went to Pittsburgh on Christmas Day.  We opened family gifts on Christmas Eve, and Santa gifts Christmas Day before taking Ian to the airport.  He went to Pittsburgh for work, but was able to watch his first Steelers game at Heinz field.  I was totally jealous.

Ian went to Pittsburgh, and my Mama came for a visit!  She was with us for a week, and it went by too quick.  It always does.  She went home yesterday, and the day after is always the saddest.  Boo.

Emma got a Hatchimal, and I think all the grownups in the house were more excited about it.  We all took our turn keeping the egg warm and rubbing it so it would hatch.  It took a long time for it to hatch, and ended up not hatching all the way.  We got the little bird out though, and Emma has been in heaven!!  She loves it so much.

Cousins came into town for the Peach Bowl.  We headed to the game on Marta, which we've never taken before.  It was pretty nice!  We didn't have to deal with traffic.  There were tons of Alabama fans. We had so much fun!

Alabama played Washington.  I felt like everything came full circle. We started  2016 living in Washington, and ended 2016 watching Washington play.  It was the closure I needed.

Ending the post with my top 16 pictures of 2016.  So many good memories!!  New jobs for both Ian and I, celebrating 8 years of marriage, first holidays celebrated in GA, meeting Emily Giffin, birthdays, first days of school, and family adventures.
2016 has had it's share of disappointments, new beginnings, saying goodbye to friends and making new friends.  I'm looking forward to seeing what adventures our family will be experiencing in 2017.  This year I'm choosing to be happy.   I want to wake up each day thankful for being given another day to spend with the people I love. I want to live in the moment and be present.   I want the people I love to know how much I love them.  I want to laugh more.  This year is a fresh start, a new beginning, and I'm ready for it!
Happy New Year friends!  May this year be  your best year yet!
